Northeastern Maine, August 15-17, 2010

The Gypsy Mermaid's wheels

Campobello - Franklin Delano Roosevelt's
birthplace and his summerhome - the kitchen

FDR's Campobello - Eleanor called the kids in
with the megaphone you see behind the table

FDR's Campobello - you can see his hat on the
chair and his pipe on the table. He was at this
house when he contracted polio at the age of 39.

FDR's Campobello - 18 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms,
no electricity, but it did have running water in
the house from a well and gravity flow tanks
in the house

Compobello Island is Canadian - The Roosevelt
summer house is the only international park in the
world, operated by both the Canadian and US governments

The tide is coming in and coveing the walk to
the East Quoddy Light on Campobello Island

You can see East Quoddy Light in the upper
center of this picture. This is as close as we could get.

This is a herring weir (or trap) the fish swim in
and can't figure out how to swim out. Obviously
there is a more tightly woven net around the bottom.
Herring are used to bait lobster traps.

This guy works on his boat while the tide is out.
(on Campobello Island)

West Quoddy Light near Lubec, Maine

Lubec, Maine - see how low the tide is from
the seaweed on the rocks.
